Just like old times...

I decided to log into my Xanga account this evening, just for old times' sake.  It has been close to a year since my last entry. The next thing I know, I'm reading over old entries from the past three years.  There's been times that I've thought about closing this account out, but then I realize that it's just too much fun to go back and reminisce over old ramblings and rants.

So, just for the heck of it, here's a new blog.  Why not?

What's been happening with me since my last entry?  Not a whole lot really.  I've watched the seasons come and go, friends tie the knot, have kids, and become adults.  As for me though, I'm about the same as usual.  I don't know if that's a bad thing or a good thing.

I still enjoy my job, although the Ohio Department of Education has apparently made it their personal goal to frustrate me to no end.  It seems to me like they like change just for the sake of change.  Me, on the other hand, say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.  That said, I think some of their methods ARE broke, but instead of fixing it, they just break it a little further.  Despite that nuisance, I still enjoy everyone that I get to work with.

Our office has been part of a construction zone for the past few months, which has been ever so fun.  Our building is attached to the county joint vocational school, and they've been undergoing a building project this year.  Also, it was realized that our office isn't up to code for fire safety, so they had to install a brand new sprinkler system, which was a mess.  We didn't have ceiling tiles for a couple months, and when there's no ceiling tiles, you can amazingly hear every little thing that is said and done from one end of our building to the other.  They finally got new tiles put in last week, and I'm loving it.

I totally think that a building renovation needs to be written into an upcoming episode of The Office.  Speaking of which, I'm totally psyched for the new season to start next month.  When will Jim and Pam get hitched?  What about Andy and Angela?  What will become of the Angela/Dwight affair?  Will Andy freak out again, and punch a hole in a wall?  These answers, and many more, may or may not be answered this season.

Once again, my calendar is becoming jam packed with happenings and events.  I've finally at least started using Google Calendar, which is the handiest thing ever.  August is a pretty full month, but it should be fun.  We've got our Vacation Bible School coming up, and I'll also be making a trip up toward Mansfield again, where I'll hopefully get to meet up with friends once again.

Oh, and I bought an upright bass fiddle... jealous?

Well, this entry will probably de-Xanga my system for another year.  God bless!

The itch...

I've been reading some blogs lately, and I've just had the itch to write a new Xanga.  It's been a few months since my last entry, so maybe I'll have a few things worth writing.

I'm in the Christmas mood.  I've been listening to Christmas music.  I've got a lot of my Christmas shopping done.  I've got a few of said gifts wrapped.  I've got my tree set up.

Speaking of my tree, that is a tale that may be pitiful to some.  My tree is about 2 feet tall, and is pre-lit.  My tree setup ceremony takes about a grand total of 1 minute.  It consists of me walking to my spare room closet, picking up the tree, carrying it to the living room, and plugging it in.  I thought about video taping the whole procedure this year, and then adding some Charlie Brown Christmas music in the background, to give it a hint of class.  It might have made a good Youtube video.  But, I ended up not doing that.

I have yet to break out my DVD of "A Christmas Story" yet, which is one of my all time favorite movies, but I should probably do that sometime soon.  I'm also wanting to see Mickey's Christmas Carol, but I haven't saw it on the TV schedule yet.  Also, I need to pop in the Christmas episode of "The Andy Griffith Show," which is a classic.

We're having a Sunday School Christmas get-together tomorrow night at my pastor's house.  It should be a lot of fun.  We'll be eating some pasta, garlic bread, etc, and then having a gift exchange.  I figure we'll probably end up playing some miscellaneous games too.  Then, almost two weeks later, on the Friday before Christmas, will be our office Christmas party.  That's always a good full day of doing nothing and having fun. Good times.

So, getting off of the topic of Christmas time, I'll change gears.  I've started watching Twin Peaks from the beginning on the Chiller network that's on DirecTV.  This is one of the weirdest, yet most intriguing shows I can recall in awhile.  It's so quirky.  I know it didn't last too long, and people seem to think it went down hill after the first season, but I'm enjoying the ride so far.

I caught the bug awhile back, and upgraded my GPS.  I bought the Garmin Nuvi 360, and this thing is AWESOME!  I had an old handheld GPS that I bought a few years back, but this new one blows it out of the water.  Road trip, here I come... the GPS shall lead me, and I shall follow it to its destination.  If it tells me to turn my car, I'll gladly do it... for it can do no wrong.

Well, it seems like I should have more important things to write about, but after looking back over this entry, it's really not all that great.  I guess if I think of something better, I can just do a new one.

Every one have a wonderful December, as we move toward a wonderful Christmas day!

Making good time...

I managed to squeeze in another Xanga session in less than a week... not bad!

I'm pretty well tuckered out... it's been a long day.  Our church has an annual fish fry and outdoor songfest each September that's free to the community, and today was the day.  Here's a recap of the events!  (If anyone cares... hah!)

I got down there around 1:00 and set up the sound system, and then headed over to Waverly to pick up some chicken.  Since some people don't care much for fish (present party included), we always a few buckets of KFC as another option.  I also needed to run to Walmart and get some saran wrap, aluminum foil and gallon storage bags for the leftover food.

After I got back to the church, it was getting close to time to eat.  I did indeed partake... and it was "mucho" delicious.  In addition to the fish and chicken, we had a veritable cornucopia of sides and desserts.  Mmmm... delicious artery clogging goodness... *drool*

Shortly after eating, we started the songfest.  I stood on stage for about an hour and a half playing the guitar for people, and doing some singing also.  After that, my fingers were pretty well sore, and I was about zapped... mainly due to the weather... it was pretty daggone (sp?) hot!

Then, once everyone was done for the evening, I needed to break down the sound equipment, and return extra mic stands, books, etc. back to the church.

To top things off, I hung around for an extra hour or so making the bulletins for tomorrow's service, and getting my lesson ready that I'm teaching for Sunday school tomorrow.

Finally, I arrived back home, a little before 8:00.  I think I'm ready to go crash on my couch and veg out for a while!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend!  I've enjoyed mine so far.

Peace out,
RMS

Keeping up with the Xangas...

Yep... it's been awhile... but I'm finally getting around to writing something new.  The sad part is I don't have anything too exciting to write about... so, I'll just ramble for a little while.

It's been a good week.  We've been having our fall revival at church this week.  It's a tradition, I guess, that many churches will call a scheduled series of meetings a "revival."  Of course that's just a word though, and doesn't bring true revival.  I believe true revival is rooted in individual holiness, when, as the book of Hosea says, we "Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you."

If our hopes though are to see lost people brought to Christ, and they won't come to a meeting of this type, then I think we need to try to take the Gospel to them.  I sometimes think that we (including myself) tend to get a little to comfortable within the walls of our church building.  Like Romans says, "... faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."... and people need to hear the Word to realize there's a sin problem (with eternal consequences) which needs to be addressed.  I don't want to discount the power of the Holy Spirit at all in this process either... He can move in ways that we could only dream.

Having said all of that, I do enjoy when we have these... an opportunity to hear the Gospel preached night after night, and worship the Lord together.  They are a good thing... I just think there's unlimited potential for so much more!

That said... I'll move on to some lighter fare now...  the fall TV season is upon us!  Here are my top 3 that I'm looking forward to...

3.)  Beauty and the Geek - Yes, this is a guilty pleasure for me... I'll come clean.     Of course, I sympathize with the geeks, since I'm of kindred spirit!

2.)  Heroes - This, in my opinion, is a fun show.  I think most of us (at least guys anyways) still have that part of us that daydreams about if we could fly, have super strength, etc.  Who didn't want to be Superman at some point?

1.)  The Office - This has to be one of my most favorite shows of all time.  That, my friends, is some quality humor.  It doesn't hurt that I work in an office, and the TV show hits painfully close to home sometimes. I'm psyched!

Normally Lost would have been on this list, but thanks to it's schedule change, it'll be on my February's Most Wanted list...

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Monday, Monday...

Hey everyone!  The day is winding down at work, so I thought I'd put down a few words on here.

I had a great weekend this past week.  I rode up to the Mansfield/Wooster area on Saturday with a buddy of mine who was scheduled to preach at a couple churches up that way.

On Saturday, we drove on up to our hotel at Seville, checked in, killed some time, and then headed down to a special Saturday evening church service at the Bellville Freewill Baptist church.  I got to meet up with some musical acquaintances whom I'd only known online prior to that day.  It was a great service, and a young man was saved that night.

After service let out, my friend and I headed over to the Steak n' Shake to meet up with my Xanga pals, Jo, Cari and April... which were another group of people I was actually meeting in person for the first time.  It was a really enjoyable visit... lots of laughs... even thought we made them wait an extra 45 minutes or so, because we were running later than originally planned.  Still sorry about that!

This reminds me... I forget that I have a southern accent... hah.  I think I may have sounded like I just stepped off the Beverly Hillbillies' wagon to the girls, though!  I guess I'm so used to my own voice that I just don't hear it when I speak.  I always get a kick out of it when I'm called out for having one though.

I thought our hotel was really nice... and I had a great night's sleep, with the exception of awaking to find I had drooled all over my pillow.  Wonderful.

Sunday morning we accidentally missed the time window on our free hotel breakfast buffet, and headed over to Hardees in the pouring rain.  Has everyone saw that monster breakfast sandwich they sell?  Wow... that things looks deadly.  I could feel my arteries hardening just by looking at the picture of it.

Anyhow, after a quick breakfast, we headed over to the Canaan Land church in Creston.  It was great service... their Homecoming service, actually.  Six people were saved during the course of the morning.  Afterwards, we stuffed ourselves at their dinner, and I managed to rest the sleeve of my suit jacket right in some marshmallows that were in my sweet potatoes... D'OH!

We left there, and after about 4 hours or so on the road, I finally found myself back in my cozy home.

All in all, it was a great weekend!
